The TRES label: hand painted & terroir related
With TRES we redefined the realm of possibility. With the top 2016 vintage, we are continuing what is probably our most ambitious project, which we started in 2010 and presented for the first time last year (all info about the project can be found here). After 7 years and with the beginning of ideal drinking maturity, the 2,990 0.75 l bottles & for the first time 150 magnum bottles of the new vintage are now available.
The aspiration of redefining the realm of possibility and the kinship to our terroir are visible also through the label. Each bottle is hand painted by the young artist Carmen Maria Alber using soil from the vineyards. When developing the motif Carmen drew inspiration from the “Milla” wall: the distinctive and captivating dolomite rock wall upon which the village of Cortaccia stands and that also inspired the design of the winery's wine shop facade, offering breathtaking views from its terrace.
The label was created by blending the soil from the vineyards where the grapes grow with acrylic binder. The expressive style can be found in the various layers of the painting, emphasized through the different textures created by diverse methods of “color” application (brushing, dabbing or scratching), and in the technique itself, done by hand using the index finger. The lighter areas containing less soil create a distinct contrast with the darker and thicker ones, which allow for a true tangible experience thanks to their consistency: a play of contrasts, proportions and perspectives.
The three triangular sections that result from the arrangement of the motif are connected to the values of our winery: the vines symbolize the work of the members, the rock cliff stands for the distinctive bond with the terroir and the sky represents the vision and aspiration towards the future of our young and dynamic “family”.
About the artist: 22-year-old Carmen Maria Alber from Kurtatsch completed her studies in graphic design in St. Pölten this year and works as an independent artist and graphic designer (painting, illustration, layouting and branding). Carmen graduated from high school in natural sciences and during that time discovered her passion for design. Thanks to her studies, she has been able to deepen and live out her enthusiasm for the subject in recent years. Her family is one of the 190 families that are members of Cantina Kurtatsch.
